Sewing Pattern ‘Cute n Casual’ for Journey Girls Dolls

March 14, 2015 By: Chris Lucas4 Comments

Journey Girl® Doll Sewing Pattern – Cute n Casual

I couldn’t help myself but get a Journey Girl® doll

That’s not true… I actually I ended up getting three Journey Girl dolls LOL

As soon as I had posted a couple of pictures of my Journey Girl dolls on Facebook I had several requests asking if I was going to make my Cute n Casual to fit the Journey Girl dolls too.

As I never like to say No….. Here is my new Cute n Casual sewing pattern for Journey Girl dolls 🙂

Just like my other Cute n Casual pattern that I designed to fit the other 18″ dolls including Australian Girl® & American Girl® dolls included in the pattern is pattern pieces and photographed instructions for sewing:

  • Dress
  • Top
  • Shorts
  • Capri Pants

What’s different about this pattern

I’ve designed this sewing pattern specifically to fit the Journey Girl ® dolls.

These dolls are quite a bit slimmer than most of the other 18″ dolls.  They don’t have much of a behind (bottom) and their legs are quite a bit slimmer so I designed this pattern to perfectly fit their body shape.

Here’s what the Journey Girls ® thought of their pattern…

Journey Girl Sewing Pattern - Dress Top Shorts Capri PantsI even ended up using this little conversation the Journey Girl dolls had as the main image on the cover of their pattern.  I figured why not have a little fun with the pattern cover and be different to all the other sewing patterns including my own.

It’s fun, it’s original and it makes me and others I’ve shared it with have a little giggle.

For the cover page I highlighted/bolded the key words the Journey Girls had in their little conversation while they were trying on all the outfits made from this pattern including

“The fit is just perfect!” –  So true as I made sure each garment fitted the Journey Girls perfectly including the Top and the Dress and those cute little Shorts & Capri Pants.

“A whole new wardrobe” – From this one pattern you can basically create a whole new summer wardrobe for Journey Girl dolls.  There’s a dress, a top, a cute little pair of shorts & capri pants.  I’ve also included tips to make variations of this pattern including adding a band and how to make a quick & easy little belt like this one…

“Quick & Easy” – Yes, each garment is really quick and really easy to sew… you could whip up a whole new wardrobe in a day and still have time to play 🙂

Play… oh yes that’s all part of the fun of sewing for dolls.

When making dolls clothes not only do we get to sew but we also get to play.  Even at my age I have to admit these pretty dolls ignite my inner-child and I love playing around taking photos of them wearing the dolls clothes I sew and imagining what they think of the outfits I put them in LOL.

Here’s a few more photos I had a little fun with.

Made the top and capri pants for my journey girl, top was a perfect fit, hips on capri pants fitted really realy well, when I make again would probably allow an extra 1/4″ on the hips each side of the hips, for ease of getting on and off. But the final effect was great

That’s great Helen 🙂 So glad you’re happy with the pattern. The little capri pants are so cute and love the little shorts too. If you’re going to add a little extra I’d probably go with about 1/8″ as this then will give you a 1/2″ overall once they’re made up which you might find will give you the little extra room for ease of getting on and off. If you went with 1/4″ on each side that would give you an extra 1″ which could be a little more than you need. Either way I’d love to know how you go adding a little extra.

These Journey Girl dolls sure adorable! I also found that Meredith’s hips are little wider than my other two Journey Girls. Funny how the same dolls can have a variation in their sizing.

Hi, I just started learning to sew. I did a simple skirt for me, a tote and a pillow in shape of M. Do you think those patterns for Journey Dolls are easy enough for me to try?
    Thank you for replying 🙂
